Tips & Tricks#2: Staying Current

Good morning, fellow Bravenetters!   Today, we're going to talk about how to save ourselves some time while still enjoying a rich and fulfilling experience here on Bravenet.  I'm talking about easing up our Bookmark load by taking a minute to subscribe to our favorite bloggers.

I don't know about you, but I have a ton of bookmarked blogs that I visit on a regular basis. Now, while this is great, it can also be cumbersome - and, not all of my favorites journal on a steady basis; some only journal once every couple of months or even less.  So, rather than spend hours of time I don't have to be going through each and every person on my personal favorites list, I've been making use of a wonderful little feature called Subscribe to Journal.  You'll find this option right above the Tagboard.

NOTE:  Journal owners must have this option enabled before readers can make use of it.  To enable the tool, go to your Blog Maintenance Options, scroll down until you see the Manage Subscribers link, and click it.  From there, you have the option to enable or disable the feature.

Here's how this tool works.  When you subscribe to a journal, you receive email notices each time the journaler makes a new post.  To receive these email updates, just enter your email address into the box, hit the "Go" button, and then wait for the confirmation email.  When it arrives - and it usually arrives within a minute or two - click the confirmation link provided, and you'll be taken straight to the journal, where you'll see a little note underneath the subscribe box that says your subscription has been confirmed.  That's all there is to it! From that point on, every time the journal owner makes a post, you'll get an email notification telling you about it and linking you to the new post.   Isn't that great?

For each journal I subscribe to, that is one less bookmark for me to have to manage, and frankly, I just love that.  Honestly, it's a real time-saver, and let's face it, folks:  we're all very busy, and anything that helps us save a little bit of time is a definite bonus.

So, go ahead, folks.  Subscribe to your favorite bloggers today.  In no time, you'll wonder how you ever managed without this feature.  Have a great day!

That is a good idea. I just put that feature on my blog. By the way thanks for stopping by and giving me the heads up on what was going on with Bravenet.

I subscribe through the RSS icon as I have this little gadget on my windows vista that allows me to get a short description of all new entries to all blogers I'm subscribed to. But that only applies to those who doesn't do advertising for payment. Otherwise my gadget is filled with the same kind of advertisements from many people.

That's great, Sapphire. And you're more than welcome about the heads-up; a lot of people were feeling pretty frustrated with the site problems that were happening...

RSS is great, My-Kin. Subscribing through email is good because it helps increase the journaler's visibility, too. Most importantly, it shows the journal authors that they aren't just talking to themselves, and I think that's what we all want to know, right? We all want to know that there are people out there who actually care about what we think.

You're right, it helps to know someone's out there reading our words! Any suggestions for getting them to sign up?
